12/15/10 - Treadmill

Temp was in the teens this morning so I opted to head to the gym and run on the treadmill.  Did a 'hill' workout at level 15 for 50 minutes.  4.2mph when incline < 9.0.  3.6mph when incline >=9.0.  Heart rate stayed pretty constant around 140 (+/- 7).  Burned 633 calories.  Will use total calorie burn as my measure of improvement during treadmill runs.  Ate mini bagel - half peanut butter / half jelly & coffee pre-workout.  Felt good.

Will continue to work treadmill runs into my routine - particularly when the weather is crappy.  Advantage is less pounding on the joints, greater ability to monitor performance and improvements over time, and greater control over incline.  Disadvantage is no training on declines.  Running down steep hills destroys your quads and I'll need to be ready for that too.
